I put the comment that the Iraqi journalist made (no doubt a poor translation - something like "this is one last kiss, you dog") on my Skype quote box, and a coworker promptly told that that she found it "extremely offensive as an American".
I ignored the qualifier 'as an American' (aren't most things offensive - or not?) and tried to explain that I didn't put it there because I thought shoe-throwing (at anyone) was a good form of protest, but rather for the bizarre, melodramatic wording and for the surreal nature of something like that making a huge news story... But I don't think I got through.
I guess I'm just a dirty, shoe-throwing For'ner.
my dad said that throwing your shoes at someone is quite a big insult in Iraq- I haven't fact-checked that yet, but the "this is one last kiss, you dog" is golden.
