This is theeee most harsh thing I have read today, namely the middle paragraphs- good description there:

Oddly enough Robert and I were having a much softer version of a related conversation over a beer at the MiniBar last night - to the tune of "Is it even safe go go back to the states because of what could happen in the near future? Is it even ethical to raise a family there any longer?..." Not to scaremoger, but it does hover in the back of the mind... everytime I have this kind of conversation, which isn't that often any more- it usually ends with me saying "Have you read A FRIEND OF THE EARTH by T.C. Boyle-?"
