Post Titled: fate of QUAERO
In the first half of 2006 I remember news reports like:
"The French president, Jacques Chirac, yesterday unveiled what he hopes will be his great legacy to France's struggle against the global dominance of the US: a series of technological projects including a European search engine to rival Google."
"€400 Million invested in research and develoment of European rival to Google"
then...
"Search experts Autonomy, (Financial Times) called the plan "a blatant case of misguided and unnecessary nationalism"."
and...
"According to the print edition of The Economist, January 6, 2007 (pp. 5), Quaero "was reportedly scrapped" since the German part "grumbled about the cost and have indicated they will produce their own, scaled-down search engine"."
and the beat goes on...
